Yankees option Anthony Volpe after 20-day rehab window closes...
Volpe has been recovering from a shoulder surgery he had in October. In 13 minor league appearances so far, he slashed .275 with one homer and six RBIs. In his absence, Jose Caballero has been playing great at shortstop for the Yankees. “Caballero’s playing the heck out of the position and playing really well,” manager Aaron Boone said when asked about Volpe. “So that complicates it. So just deciding — what’s the role that exists right away? Those are things we’ve gotta continue to work through.” Volpe was a Golden Glove winner in 2023 and has been the Yankees’ shortstop since being drafted by the team that year. Last season, he finished with .212 with 19 homers and a career-high 72 RBIs, but his fielding was cause for concern. In 2025, he recorded a career-high 19 errors, third most among shortstops. It is currently unclear how much more time he will spend on the Triple-A squad.
