Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby to enter name into NFL...
The saga around Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is taking another turn. After being ruled ineligible to play due to gambling on games by the NCAA, Sorsby sought an injunction against the NCAA. He won the injunction and was going to be required to serve a two-game suspension. This led to backlash from the Big 12 board of directors, calling for sanctions on Texas Tech. As other coaches, players, and analysts all give an opinion on the idea of Sorsby playing for Texas Tech, it now seems to be a moot point. Sorsby is applying to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. “Star QB Brendan Sorsby is applying to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, sources tell NFL Network. After legal wrangling about his NCAA eligibility, Sorsby — regarded as a first-round talent — now could be the highest-drafted supplemental pick in decades,” Pelissero posted on X, formerly Twitter. The quarterback will petition the NFL to be allowed to enter the supplemental draft, and if approved, teams will privately submit bids on what round they are willing to draft him. If they are successful, the team will forfeit that round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. The deadline to formally apply for the supplemental draft is June 22, meaning more legal wrangling could have put the chance to play in the NFL in peril for Sorsby. It had long been rumored that Sorsby would enter the Supplemental Draft if he could not play for Texas Tech in 2026. The last time a player was selected in the NFL Supplemental Draft was in 2019, when Jalen Thompson of Washington State was declared ineligible for his senior season and was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. Normally, the supplemental picks are in the third round or later, but Sorsby could go higher. The 2012 Supplemental Draft was the last time a player was taken in the second round, with Josh Gordon being selected by the Cleveland Browns after failing a drug test. A player has not been selected in the first round of the Supplemental Draft since 1992, when Dave Brown was selected by the New York Giants. Sorsby could break that trend when a date for the draft is set.
