Fugitive high school football coach wanted on child pornography charges...
The Virginia State Police are looking for a high school football coach who disappeared days before being hit with child pornography charges. In a news release, investigators said agents were dispatched to the residence of 46-year-old Travis L. Turner, head coach of the football program at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Va., on Nov. 20 as part of their investigation and were not planning on arresting him at that time. “While in transit, the agents were informed that Turner was no longer at the location,” the release stated. Since his disappearance, which was also days before his team’s playoff game, police have conducted search and rescue operations, deploying drones and K9 units in the manhunt for the coach, who is now considered a fugitive. On Nov. 24, investigators obtained 10 warrants for the 46-year-old who is wanted on five counts of child pornography possession and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor and said that additional charges are pending. Turner, who has worked at the high school as head coach since 2011, was last seen in a gray sweatshirt, sweatpants and glasses, the Los Angeles Times reported. School officials in Wise County, Va. said they were aware of the charges against the coach and that Turner has been on administrative leave and is not permitted to be on school grounds or have any contact with students. Investigators did not provide any information on whether they believe the 46-year-old fled the area entirely or if he may still be close to home. Virginia State Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Turner to call 276-484-9483.
